Solar Energy

The Solar Energy as one of the alternative sources in life and which produced by the sun. Nowadays, air pollution is the biggest problem in our life and this energy is safer and cheaper.

There are some advantages of this energy. First, the price of this energy can’t be change in the future, unlike other prices for oil or gas. Secondly, solar power is a friend for the environment and it has zero pollution. Another useful thing is that it helps when the peak shaving reached highest during the use. There are two main ways to use the power of the sun to reduce energy costs in your home. You can use the heat from the sun's rays to heat your home or your domestic hot water, or to produce electricity to power lights and appliances. Sunset is a problem and storing the solar made the batteries prices more expensive. They found a way to keep power at night by adding cobalt and phosphates to water and pass through a solution a mild current with a glass electrode. The researchers advise that water must be and split to hydrogen and oxygen during night because hydrogen could burn or come out through the cell.

Photovoltaic cells (PV) are flat electronic devices which will convert the sun light immediately to electricity. Typical commercial photovoltaic cells convert 10-20% of the sunlight that falls on them to electricity. A separate report from industry analyst firm NanoMarkets forecasts that the thin-film PV market will produce the equivalent of 26 gig watts by 2015 and generate over $20 billion in revenue in that same time frame(Jusko).

In conclusion, solar energy is the future source for the earth and it can protect the environment for the next generation.

Road Safety

How to keep your self safe on the road? The safety on the roads has more than one part, and to keep yourself safe you need to follow some of the instructions that will help you to safe yours and others lives. There are a lot of studies shows that following the laws and the instructions on the roads and using the maintained vehicles will keep the people safe and prevent the accidents and death. Following the safety will save money and people. The studies show that in the entire world around 1,200,000 people die every year in car accidents. The Accidents are in 9th place in leading cause of death in the world. There are three parts of the road safety driving: road users, vehicle design and equipments and engineering measures.

First, knowledge of the road users must be good. For example millions of peoples die in poor countries because the knowledge of the drivers is poor and they haven’t trained well (WHO). The biggest cause of accidents is speeding above the road limit (Kumar).

Second, the vehicle must be designed to run on the roads safely. The fact in India shows that a small number of drivers uses safety measures or safety belts or even maintain they’re vehicle (Kumar). They have to use a check list of the equipments like Seatbelts, Adjusting mirrors, seat position, securing loose objects, not using cell phones while driving, checking the engine warning lights and checking the fuel status.

Third, engineering measures of the roads must be good for the users. The roads are built in a way that caused a lot of problems to the road users even because it is not well maintained or it is designed in wrong way. Beside these roads in India, they suffer from having less number of the traffic signals and high traffic density at the same time (Kumar).

In conclusion, the best thing to do is teaching the people about the rules of the safety driving on the roads which gives them the knowledge about how to protect their self. For example, in the United Arab Emirates, the person who applies for the driving license must learn in the driving technical institute about the rules and the vehicles.

Pollutions and Solution ????

Global warming appeared to the surface and has been detected by the experts and researchers. They found out that it is affecting the mother earth and caused big problems that will affect the nature around the people. The land area is affected and the water bodies too. On the water bodies the people are traveling on motorized boats and yachts between the lands. These motorized boats will affect the environment by using fuels and chemicals. Also throwing rubbish in the water and oil spills from the oil tankers can cause pollution. In this essay I will outline some main problems and solutions about marine pollution. Let’s discuss three ways that people make the ocean dirty.

One of the problems is that using the jet boats for skiing in the closed waters areas or lakes which will leave a film of unburned fuel and lubricants on the surface. For example, driving a motorboat for one hour makes pollution as much as driving 1300 Km by car (Rick). Another problem is the dumped waste in the rivers and oceans because of the growing population which will affect the animals and human being (Fadhley). For example, most of the dumped wastes are plastics which are not recyclable or bio-degradable. Third problem is the oil spills problem which has taken place in the oceans due to the ships oil spills and the industrial waste. For example, the oil spills is the main reason causing the animals becoming endangered (Meadows).

Although there are problems, also there are solutions for those problems. First, in the USA, the government phased tight emission standards for the motorboats to reduce the engines emissions like CO2, unburned fuels and lubricants (Sorum). To reduce dumped waste, another solution to control the waste is by the people them self by eliminating the use of the unnecessary disposal plastics. The oil spill is a major issue in marine pollution. One of its solutions is to use the booms all around the oil spills as a temporary solution (DAVIS).

In conclusion, the global warming is rising and it is affecting the nature around us. The marine life is facing the huge change of global warming affect. However, many other reasons are affecting the marine life nature as well. In point of view, the marine life is as important as the wild life. So eliminating the danger sources of marine pollution is highly needed. In addition to that, governments should act immediately to solve this issue.

Cool Cities

Through the years many problems appeared to the surface because of the industrial revolution. In the modern cities and because of the economic developments in these cities the problems became a part of these communities and caused rising in population, traffic delay, increasing footprints and increasing in energy consumptions. The pollution increased in the world; therefore we have to have a solution that will reduce these pollutions which is caused by transportations, factories and all others. The cool cities came to the world to help bringing the CO2 and heat to the lowest level. In this essay I will outline the ideas and recommendations of this topic.

The first reason is the world population increasing. The increasing will be as in figures around 9 billion in 2050 (Revkin). For example Masdar City is designed to have no cars and machines which will cause pollutions. It will have only 50,000 citizens who can be served (Fox). Therefore we need a lot of cool cities in the world which is impossible.

The other reason is the cost to build this type of city. For example, Masdar city costs around $22 billion to be build (Fox). All countries around world can not have this type of cities because of their poorness. This amount of many will be used to develop and build new factories instead of the old ones to reduce the CO2. At the same time they can use this amount of money to help the poor countries.

In conclusion, this is a cool idea but this is not the solution for the world because of their cost. Therefore, we have to start with ourselves by reducing the footprints and the pollutions and changing our life styles.

Carbon foot print

It is all known to us that human being have a major effect on our planet, in which individuals, organizations, and nations all included in this effectiveness. Especially in the last 150 years it was accelerated very sharply and nations start to reduce and rectify that effectiveness. However before going forward to rectify the environmental effect problem, the human impact should be calculated and ranked to create and make an effective strategy. Due to this a new definition was created called Carbon Footprint that can be defined as the measure of human impact has on the environment, and in particular climate change.

Due to the large amount of activities that human effect the environment with, the human activity was categorized in two parts, Primary and Secondary footprint. This will ease the calculation of carbon footprint and the sum of the two will be the total result of impact. To clarify, the Primary footprint measures directly the emission of gases from industrial areas (Electricity, refineries, car manufactures, and more) and transportation, where as the secondary will calculate the individual production of these emissions. This measurement is considered to be a rough calculation; however it can tell us our location in that effect on environment.

By focusing on the score I got from these web sites http://www.myfootprint.org and http://footprint.wwf.org.uk//. I have answered about my life activities which guide to know my carbon footprint. I got an average of sw2.68. My classmate Abood got 2.28 to be the 2nd, in the 3rd place Hadi Abdulla with score of 1.68, Sultan Al Shamsi is the 4th and he got 1.48. These high ranks in recorded in the UAE because lake of knowledge about the consequences of carbon on our global. That why our country has poor reputation. So, here are some tips to shrink the amount of carbon footprint. First of all, recycling. To clarify, recycling waste papers and plastics and also buying recycled items. Another factor to take in consider is planting trees. To illustrate, planting trees can reduce the amount of carbon because of plants need of carbon for life cycle. Another factor yet is reducing electrical usage. For instance, decreasing of the air conditioners usage can reduce carbon footprint. Final point to conceder is using energy efficient product. To clarify, buy energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs. As the website http://www.carbonfootprint.com/ stated that saving energy is the main point. For example, switch off all devices (reduce your carbon footprint3).

In conclusion, we can’t leave the concern of our environment only on our government or environmental organizations, so we should join hands with each other for better and healthy life for our children and future of the planet earth because we are all part of this world.

"An Inconvenient Truth " Reviews

An Inconvenient Truth movie, presented by Al Gore a Vise President of Clinton administrative talked about the world approaching the global warming and the effects of it. Several critics and praised the movie’s aim so let me outline these arguments for and against this movie.

The criticisms against An Inconvenient Truth movie was the unnecessary details that been stated by Al Gore let the audience to be engaged and feel bored. Also, due to the usage of too many scientific phrases it feels boring. Another criticism Al Gore said that human being is the main cause of global warming but without any evidence of that (Medley). In addition due to the scientific subject that Al Gore presented, it was not convenient for the movie to talk about his personal life, wife, sister and his child in the movie (Medley).

However other praise Al Gore’s movie as a good presenter that makes the movie more interesting. In which, treating his listeners like adult and his enthusiastic manner (Ebert).Al Gore’s used charts, statistic and scientists studies that helped that the danger of global warming could be understood from elders to young people.

In my opinion, the movie gives a clear massege about our destiny on this earth and its future even if we refuse all what is presented by Al Gore.
